Biography

Southbound grew out of an earlier band called the Statesboro Blues Band.
This was a seven piece band we put together in a hurry so we could play a gig at Lancaster High School.

We had 2 drummers and 2 bass players. Talk about "bottom"!
The highlight of this band was a big concert at the Lancaster Moose Club.

Statesboro Blues Band Members:
  • Tom Buechi - Guitar and Lead Vocals
  • Mike Hormouzis - Guitar and Vocals
  • Mark Pikus - Bass
  • Dan Niracki - Bass
  • Mike Was - Drums
  • Mike Bates - Drums
  • Mike Saxer - Harmonica
  • Miles Rue - Harmonica (Replaced Mike Saxer later)
Later, the lineup slimmed down and evolved into what became Southbound.

Southbound Members:
  • Tom Buechi - Guitar and Lead Vocals
  • Mike Hormouzis - Guitar and Vocals
  • Mark Sczcublewski - Bass and Vocals
  • Mike Was - Drums
  • Louie - Drums (Replaced Mike Was in Buffalo)
  • Ron - Drums (In California)
  • Chuck - Hammond B3 Organ (In California)
We played several gigs around the Buffalo, NY area (Nickerbackers, McVans, The Lone Star, etc.)

The band broke up when Tom moved to California in September 1978.
Tom, Mike and Mark reformed in California the next year and played for a couple years in Southern California before moving on.
